Supporting Women & Girls in Conflict with the Law

When women and girls come into conflict with the law, their experience can be quite different from their male counterparts. With far fewer women and girls in the justice system, they usually have reduced access to programs and can be sent far from home if incarcerated.

EFry’s gender-informed programs strive to close the support gap and provide the type of help women need to move forward in a positive way.

Even short periods of incarceration can be incredibly destabilizing. The goal of our community-based programs is to help women and girls remain in the community while they address what led them into conflict with the law.

EFry Court Support

Navigating the legal system can be confusing and complex. Mistakes or missed requirements can lead to incarceration. Our court support program helps women and girls understand their responsibilities and their rights.

Stronger Tomorrows Counselling

EFry provides a variety of counselling programs that help women develop stronger life skills and enhance their ability to build stable lives.

Pathways to Positive Futures

Our skills-focused alternative to incarceration program helps women address the challenges that led them to being in conflict with the law and helps them prepare for positive lives in their community.

Uplift

EFry’s alternative to incarceration program helps girls remain in their community, while also addressing their individual needs to help them build lives free of legal system involvement.

EFry’s prison-based programs provide women with both group and individualized support, to set women up for success when they return home.

Strengthening Connections

Having positive relationships with family, friends, partners and their community can be life-changing for women. Our counselling and life skills education programs help provide tools and support to help women create, rebuild and maintain healthy connections.

Cultural Support

Indigenous women are over-represented in our prisons. In addition to advocating for changes to break down systemic racism in the justice system, EFry offers culturally safe supports for Indigenous women to assist their transition back to their families and community living.
